42nd Annual US Society for Behavioral Medicine Conference 2021

Last week, our CRE members Prof Brian Oldenburg, Prof Barr Taylor, A/Prof Nicholas C. Jacobson, Dr Dominika Kwasnicka, and PhD candidate Enying Gong attended the 42nd annual meeting and science sessions held by the Society of Behavioral Medicine. The team presented a set of insightful presentations and stimulating discussions, with the learnings from three automated programs helping users with eating disorders, mental health, and diabetes.

Prof Barr Taylor shared the lessons learned from a recent research project his team has been working on in designing, implementing, and refining a chatbot to prevent eating disorders. A/Prof Nicholas C. Jacobson introduced the design process of a generative mental health chatbot based on deep learning models and the potential to apply to real-life mental health treatment. PhD candidate Enying Gong presented the recent findings of My Diabetes Coach Program on how conversation-based digital intervention could provide support for people with diabetes, and potential approaches to optimize existing digital health solutions for maintained usage and sustained benefit.
